Welcome to Midgard

Some great things about this book:
1) The setting is a remote town in Midgard, several years into Ragnarok. This place makes Deadwood look like Candyland.
2) The pre-made characters are all suitably hardcore and interesting.
3) Combat plays on a hex grid and is very tactical. The characters each have multiple unique combat actions that can be modified in several ways, such as affecting multiple targets. On a player's turn, runes are drawn from a bag and used to activate and modify the actions. One of the really nice aspects of this system is that you never miss on an unopposed attack. The target does have the option of playing a rune out of turn to parry, but it will give them less options on their turn.
4) There's a lot of artwork, all by the same artist. It helps to draw you into the setting, looking somewhat like art you might see on a medieval tapestry.
5) The main adventure can be run in one session, letting you quickly decide if you want to buy the core book. There are a few side quests that can be expanded on, such as the zombears attacking the town.
6) Zombears = zombie polar bears!

Beautiful Art, Innovative Game

Fafnir's Treasure is a stand-alone adventure game placed in the larger setting of Fate of the Norns: Ragnarok; it is a role-playing game designed to simulate the end times of the Norse sagas. The game incorporates Norse mythology and weaves a tapestry of epic sagas, tense battles, and deep and personal drama.
To get you into the game, Fafnir's Treasure uses a "rules light" approach to attract players, slowly building on simple concepts to produce a rich system driven not by dice, but by blind drawing and casting Norse runes which are associated with the drawer's powers. FOTN:R is highly tactical and feels almost like a board game / RPG hybrid, and it plays surprisingly well for a game with such a seemingly abstract play concept.
The entry of players into the story, even novices of Norse mythology, is facilitated by the rich folkloric art style of Helena Rosova, who captures the eye with vivid scenes of mythical characters. The game can be played as an extremely dark, realistic and gritty game, or as a cartoonish frolic through Norse lands, making it fun for ages 13+.

Well, to be honest I have not read the entire rules yet, but from what I did read the games seems great! This game fits well with the TV series 'Vikings' and is a nice change from the all to common high fantasy rpgs on the market today.
