Carol Strickland has a doctorate in American culture from the University of Michigan. She is the author of The Annotated Arch: A Crash Course in the History of Architecture, "The Illustrated Timeline of Art History," and numerous artists' monographs. Carol lives in New York City and Long Island.

The History of Art, explained!

Carol Strickland has written one of the most entertaining, comprehensive, and comprehensible books on art history currently on the market. Not only does she provide soundbites on the meaning, style, and creation of selected works (which are produced in beautiful, truthful images) she gives information about the lives of the artists. This book is probably one of the most inclusive and up-to-date works on this subject you will find. I have found it extraordinarily helpful in studying for the AP Art History exam and for the class in art history I am taking. (Recommended: reading the book's summary and volunteering your information from it in class.) If you are looking for a book to help you in that test, look no further. Even for those reading the subject merely for fun, Strickland's writing style is easy and fun to read, and bridges the often yawning gap between the art world and the real world. She shows a true gift for taking an overwhelming, sprawling subject and making ordered, objective sense of it.

Excellent used condition, book. So happy I bought this instead of a much more expensive new one. Also, it's kind of like a cheat sheet for Art History. It covers a lot of info in small, understandable pieces. I am going to use it as a supplement for teaching high school Art History.

Finally a book that has it ALL!

As a pelvic floor educator, yoga instructor and reforming pelvic pain sufferer, i have to say this is the best book out there on the subject. I travel the country educating women about their pelvic floors and until now have only been able to refer the women who have tightness or pain to books that were lacking in some way. This book gives you the "how to" on every level. Very easy to read and understand for the lay person. Very clear and concise on instructions (for example on self massage). With this book, Isa can help others that cannot get to her office. Isa's voice is loud and clear that her intent is to alleviate suffering. In the world of yoga, alleviating the suffering of others is one of the highest callings. She has my utmost respect as a pioneer in the field. Buy this book if you have pelvic pain. It is invaluable.

This book is saving my life. I am hopeful when I was once hopeless. The information isn't too jargon heavy. The diagrams enhance your understanding. The tips and exercises are amazing and help tremendously. One of the best books I have read on the subject. Highly recommended. This is for patients, practioners, and spouses.

I am an IC patient and chronic pelvic pain sufferer. After having gone through physical therapy to the end of my financial resources I thought that the only hope left for me was medication and what few home exercises I had learned. Now I am thrilled to have found this book. Isa gives you very easy to follow, detailed instructions for finding relief from daily pain. I am now able to use less medication and hope to be able to one day not use any for relief of my pelvic floor issues. About the Author
Robert A. McLeman is a geography professor at Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Canada, a former diplomat and an award-winning teacher. He specializes in understanding how the natural environment influences the well-being of households and communities. His research investigates historical drought-related migration on the Great Plains, adaptation to climate change in remote and resource-dependent communities, drivers of modern-day settlement abandonment, and the effects of environmental events and conditions in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean on international migration to Canada. In writing this book, Dr McLeman drew his inspiration from years of scholarly research and past professional experiences. His scholarly articles on migration as an adaptation to climate are widely cited, and have featured prominently in reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Government agencies in Canada, Europe and the United States have frequently sought his advice on policy issues related to climate change, migration and security. He is a frequent contributor on environmental issues to French and English-language public radio in Canada and the United States, and enjoys teaching introductory classes and engaging the wider public in citizen science.

About the Author

Adam Weintrit is a Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Navigation (since 2008) of Gdynia Maritime University, Poland and the Head of the Navigational Department (since 2003). He was also Head of the Electronic Navigational Charts and ECDIS Simulator (1996-2010).

He has got M.Sc degree from Gdynia Maritime University, Faculty of Navigation (1985), Ph.D and DSc degree (1992) and habilitation degree (2004) from Warsaw Technical University, Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography. He has over 25 years experience in teaching and research works in the field of maritime navigation, sea transport, hydrography, cartography, geodesy and safety at sea. He has been involved in national projects founded by the Polish Committee for Scientific Research, several local projects founded by GMU and has also co-operated in few international projects, including European Union projects and he received 3 grants of the IAMU founded by the Nippon Foundation (including two as a project leader).

He has published more than 250 reports and papers in journals and conference proceedings. He is author of 18 books on navigation, including 5 handbooks on ECDIS and electronic charts. He has many times been the member of the program and organising committees of international conferences and symposiums. He is Chairman of TransNav.
