This technical note is a reprint of a 1901 Van Nostrand publication. If you look the book up on Google books, you can see that they have a fairly large selection from the book available for public viewing. A digital form of the book can also be obtained from the Forgotten books website directly. I downloaded the book first and it turned out that my downloaded form had multiple blank pages on it. I assumed that the downloadable file was just corrupted. So I made the decision to buy it from Amazon.

The book that I received was mostly blank pages. The missing pages follow the same sequence as the download. I guess there is some form of a 'Just-in-time' publication process involved here that does not pay attention to the quality of the rendered image. So what I ended up with was the printed form of a corrupt digital file.

I guess the 'publishers', Forgotten Books 'forgot' to check their printing/scanning process. They mention the caveat that they use some ridiculous OCR tech to process their scanned books. I have some personal experience with developing OCR technology and I know for a fact that it is very easy to ensure a minimum quality-metric is always satisfied. Google's scanned version attests to that.

So I am left with the big question that do the Forgotten Books people actually pay attention to what they purport to do? Or does being a non-profit enable them to circumvent any rudiments of quality?

Wish more of Jin Yong's work were available in English

To a Western audience largely unfamiliar with wuxia novels, Jin Yong's work is probably best described as being similar to Ang Lee's 2000 film "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." Suffice to say, if you liked "Crouching Tiger," you will probably like Jin Yong.
Bear in mind, however, that reading Jin Yong without understanding Confucianism, Buddhism or Taoism is like reading C.S. Lewis without understanding Christianity, so it might be worthwhile to Wikipedia the basic tenets of those beliefs before starting the novel. Otherwise - you may get a good story, but that's all you're getting.

It is a good read and a very different kind of story. The story has the unique characteristic to many other Wuxia novels that there are stories within stories. This improves the sense of wonder and mystery and the characters are very colorful

About the Author
Michael Gecan is a community organizer and has worked for the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF) in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Baltimore for more than thirty-five years. His writing has appeared in The Washington Post and the New York Daily News among others. He lives in Princeton, New Jersey.

Political Partisanship Will Not Save Us

I heard Mike Gecan speak at a conference in the summer of 2014 and was impressed by his resolve and insights. I eventually picked up "Going Public" in 2015 - the book reads a lot like hearing him in person: good narrative, pragmatic, and imbued with a solid commitment to (what he calls) "relational culture."
The 2004 edition of this book, page 32, gets to the heart of the matter: "In a culture of quick encounters and multiple contacts . . . there are fewer and fewer public relationships of depth and quality." Gecan claims that neither technology, wealth, nor charismatic leaders will necessarily change our societies for the better, but regular folks working together leveraging social power via relationships. That's the way it's always been, and it's not changing anytime soon - it's hard work, though. Gecan's book does an excellent job at showing how the nuts and bolts of this crucial work can be done.
Also of worthwhile note is Gecan's refusal to be pigeon-holed politically. As an organizer and worker for social change, he shows that there is great freedom - to work alongside or to critique - while interacting with political partisans. While working for change in communities, there is no compulsion to wholesale endorse political party agendas - this work is local, specific, and truly grass-roots.
Even though this book is more than ten years old, it yet is sharp and timely. Highly recommended.

Excellent primer on community orgonizing

This book is an excellent primer for community orgonizing. Gecan lays out the principles of relating, acting, orgonizing, and reflecting pretty well. He has some excellent stories in the relating and acting sections though the orgonizing and reflecting sections are pretty sparse. Overall well worth the read because of the inspiring stories of real success.

For anyone interested in Scottish history or genealogy, this book is a must. Extensively researched; it documents the historic residencies and holdings of even some of the more obscure Clans and families. Pictures and drawings embellish the readable text.

This book gives information of what I needed to know for the books that I write. It came in good condition (with a few dogears, but that doesn't matter). It gives information of where the clans lived, and usually shows pictures of the castles, which is what I needed for my books.

Makes it easy to do your taxes

I have been using this product for years, starting with its grand parent, "Mac-in'Tax." It gets better every year, especially if you've used it in the past. It remembers all of your data from the prior year, so nothing needs to be reentered. And, it keeps track of depreciation, AMT, and other essential info from prior years, and does multi-year calculations that would be a bear to do manually. Occasionally, it will bring you back to a prior year's form to pull out data, but its very easy.

The only con is that they do have a few sales pitches before you finish and file. You'll be asked to consider an IRA from one of their affiliates, purchase audit insurance, etc.

Was able to get caught up with all my taxes. Better than doing it by hand and remembering all the special rules. Cheaper than hiring a professional.

About the Author
Robert Horonjeff (deceased) was an internationally known consultant on airport design and professor of transportation engineering at the University of California, Berkeley.

Francis X. McKelvey is professor of civil engineering at Michigan State University. He has also served as a consultant on transportation and airport planning to federal, state, and local agencies, as well as to private firms in the United States and abroad. He played a major role in the planning and design of the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Airport planner and engineer's viewpoint - updated

The best of its kind for the technical detail. We have most of the other airport and terminal design books on the bookshelf (up to 2005 publication date), but every time we come back to using Horonjeff for the serious design of new airports and extensions. It is also good for layout design by the engineer for terminals - although the architects may want more books. But there is another book - the 2003 book titled Airport Systems - Planning, Design and Management by Richard de Neufville and Amedeo Odoni - that will become the definitive text on airport design for the first part of the 21st century. So you'll need both, especially if you have to deal with the complexity of systems and stakeholders that are part of medium to large size airports.

Horonjeff has got the full set of data tables and charts to enable you to design anything. I seldom need to use the ICAO Manuals on a daily basis, and only use them for cross checking an obscure point. The upgrade from the 3rd edition to the 4th edition was a big one - it metricated much of the book, added in the latest aircraft (late model 737, 767s and ER, and the 777-200), and generally updated the book. Examples of new information are some good stuff on runway/taxiway capacity, and some additions to ACN/PCN. Worth spending the money to update. Essential to buy if starting from scratch. The best textbook for a technical course on Airport Engineering. Needs Airport Systems to have a rounded and modern view of masterplanning (and the successor to masterplanning - dynamic systems planning).
