A "must have" book for pizza lovers everywhere!

What an incredible resource! Expert tips on where to eat pizza anywhere in the world! I've looked up and agree wholeheartedly with the recommendations in the cities I know well - and even there, I'm now hungering to try other places listed, given the credibility of the reviews of the places I've been. As expected, there's an unevenness in the coverage of establishments in various locales - only 17 recommended in all of New York State, outside NYC? - but finding regional experts everywhere in the world must have been quite a chore. And what made it into the book are treasures, with Commentators' reviews reading like the brief blurbs in Zagat guides and Regional Experts' notes supplementing the reviews. This book will certainly be on my handy reference shelf to be studied before I take a trip anywhere for suggestions on where to stop for pizza!

Imbedded between the listing pages for each region are gray pages of commentary about pizza things. I'm looking forward to curling up with this book to savor the facts and folklore around the making and eating of pizza.

but the prices were super high. I ordered it

I bought this book for my fiancé - he had seen it in a museum, but the prices were super high. I ordered it, and when I picked him up a couple of days later, he was overjoyed. On our way home from the airport, he found a pizza place in a neighboring town next to where we live, and this pizza was amazing! We are looking forward to trying more pizza in the NYC area.

Could be much better

Would not buy again. Little information... NO CRITERIA! and no way to know anything about most of these places. I wish they had culled the list in half or more. I know a few of the "local experts" and in some cases they just happen to work for a 2 bit newspaper in the area. They are in some cases poor writers, have bad taste and are more focused on selling advertising to the restaurants they review than actually critically analyzing them. In any case, it could be much better

I really loved this Novella!

This was a cute story about Aster who writes books trying to disprove hauntings, also he just happens to be a vampire. Then there was Tennyson who is human and his agent. Well they had something together not long ago and Tennyson hopes to rekindle what they had.

I have to say I loved Aster's snarky attitude and the dialogue between these two. I thought the author did such a good job with this story. Yes this is a short story but you get your humor, angst and sweet with this book and the way everything just fit so well together in this Novella I thought was perfect.

All together I really loved this Novella!
I would recommend this book!

Love Can Be Found at The Inn

I've never read this short of a book before but I was pleasantly surprised. Just within the first few pages this book grabbed me and I had to exclaim "I love this book!"

The author is brilliant with her choice of words and her humorous phrases. That was one of the main things that really grabbed me. The characters are so funny in a British sort of way I instantly grew to love them and wanted to read more. Below is a few of my favorite quotes:

"He was going to enjoy every second of not having to manage the rampant stupidity afflicting the rest of his family."

"The entire place smelled like the bastard child of a florist and a perfume shop."

I loved the plot line because it was unique and interesting. A paranormal mystery with angst romance set in a spooky, creepy inn high in the mountains with a blizzard on the way. You can just feel the cold and the creepiness while giggling at the undertones of witty dialogue.

I highly recommend this book. If you love m/m paranormal books with romance, mystery and witty and humorous dialogue then you will love this book.

Surprising and fun

This is a terrific short read, full of snappy dialog and with a surprise or three up its sleeve. I'm a big fan of Megan Derr, and this is another good one.

Because it's so short, there's not a whole lot I can say without giving spoilers (there are a number of fun--and funny--surprises). I loved the premise of Astor's research to disprove hauntings and what he actually finds. It's definitely a good twist on the spooky and paranormal.

I adored the relationship between Astor and Tennyson. Their interactions were priceless. I'm not normally a fan of reading man drama where the two people can't have a reasonable conversation with each other, but this was well done. It was tongue-in-cheek and had a different feel from other similar setups. And of course, the payoff when they finally figure themselves out (or, well, when Astor figures himself out) is worth the journey.

I enjoyed the playfulness and humor, but as always with Ms. Derr, there's an underlying thoughtfulness. I'll leave it to readers to be delighted and surprised by the rest of the story.

Plain and Predicatable, but still worth reading

If I hadn't read other books by Belva Plain, I would give this book 5 stars. It was a good book, but she has done so much better in books like Evergreen and Legacy of Silence. This was a fast read (I did it in 3 days, along with working 8 hours each day and studying) and I was wrapt until the middle of the book, when I realized exactly what was going to happen. I finished the book, with hopes that I was incorrect. I was disappointed with the transparent climax, but overall this is worthwhile, especially if you haven't read any of Plain's greater works or can forget that you have.

An engaging, breathtaking story

I had never even heard of Belva Plain when I saw this novel for sale at our library, but I thought the synopsis was intriguing and boy was I right.

Where to begin? The characters were wonderful--full of real life emotion and actions and often complex. The writing was also well done--admittedly the story started off a bit slow for me, but that is because the real drama of the story was yet to come. Once things really got dicey, it was tough to put this book down (though sadly I had to a few times with everything going on for the holiday weekend). In some ways, the story is part mystery, though mainly it is about a woman, Hyacinth, who is coping with a nasty divorce, limited time with her own children, and an inability to really trust people and sometimes even be around them. She lives in daily fear that her ex-husband will expose a secret that she can hardly believe even happened. Eventually another man comes into her life, but as much as she loves him, her inability to trust him and disclose what has happened in her past ultimately comes between them. Of course, there is her ex-husband's partner, Arnie, who we know is in love with her throughout the entire story, though she doesn't feel that she can reciprocate those feelings. Do you see how the story quickly becomes complicated and heart-wrenching at times? Oh, and as for that ex-husband, Gerald... boy do you love to hate him, or at least I did. A more condescending, unreasonable, unfaithful jerk you'll be hard-pressed to find, though he tries so hard to cover it all up with his "charm."

When the truth about that tragic secret was finally revealed, I have to admit I was pretty surprised. I suppose I ought to have seen it coming, but I think that in many ways I am as naive as our protagonist, Hyacinth. Plain really did a brilliant job weaving an incredible story that at times seems almost unbelievable, though in reality stranger things have happened. It is rewarding to see Hyacinth's life start to turn around, though her road is certainly bumpy as she tries to move on from what has happened to her.
